Jonathan S. FitzGerald BL – Chairperson

imageJonathan holds primary and master degrees in law. Prior to commencing practice at the Bar in 2005, Jonathan worked in the International Trade Practice of a “Big 4” advisory firm working in Dublin, Sydney (Aus) and New York (US). He qualified as a Chartered Accountant (ACA) in 2001 and as an Attorney-at-Law (NY) in 2004.  Jonathan practices in commercial and chancery law and specialises  in construction law.   Jonathan is a founding member and current Chairperson of the Association.

Patricia Hill BL – Vice-Chairperson

Patricia was called to the Bar in 2001.  Patricia has acted in a wide variety of commercial, chancery and common law matters and specialises in construction law and construction dispute resolution. Patricia is Vice-chairperson of the CBA for 2019/2020.

Barra McCabe BL – Secretary

Barra was called to the Bar in 2015.  Prior to coming to the Bar, Barra practiced as a quantity surveyor and he brings this practical experienced on construction and engineering projects to his practice as a barrister.  Barra is Secretary of the CBA for 2019/2020

Lydia Bunni BL – Treasurer

Lydia is a practising barrister since 2006, specialising in construction disputes, construction insurance, arbitration, environmental and planning law. Lydia advises contractors, employers, designers, insurance companies and private entities. She lectures in Trinity College Dublin, University College Dublin and the Society of Chartered Surveyors Ireland. Lydia is the Honorary Secretary and a founding member of the Construction Bar Association of Ireland. Lydia is Treasurer of the Construction Bar Association of Ireland.

Anita Finucane BL 

114098-Anita-FinucaneAnita was called to the Bar in 2014.  She practices in the areas of common law, chancery and non-jury matters and construction law. Anita is a member of the Bar Council 2019/2020.  Anita acts coordinates the relationship between the Association and the Young Bar.

John McDonagh SC

John was called to the Bar in 1983 and took silk in 2002. He specialises in Professional Negligence, Insurance, Construction Law, Procurement and Chancery. John also practices in the area of Alternative Dispute Resolution and is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators and a CEDR Accredited Mediator. John is the Editor of the CBA Construction Law Periodical for 2019/2020.

John Trainor SC 

John Trainor SC

John was called to the Bar in 1980 and admitted to the Inner Bar in 1996.  He specialises in the fields of construction law, commercial law, non-jury and chancery actions and arbitration; particularly, in the field of construction law. John is also qualified as an arbitrator, mediator and adjudicator.  He has acted in a wide variety of large construction arbitrations and litigation in relation to many large engineering and building contracts, breach of contract and professional negligence cases, as well as in disputes concerning procurement, planning and insurance issues. John was Chairperson of the Association in 2018/2019.

James Burke BL

James was called to the Bar in 2005.  James’ practice consists predominantly of commercial matters with a particular specialty in taxation, procurement and construction law. James leads the CBA Tech Talks Programme 2019/2020.

Deirdre Ní Fhloinn BL

Deirdre  previously practised as a solicitor at large Dublin based firm and at London Underground, advising on contracting arrangements for building and engineering projects.  She holds a Postgraduate Diploma in Construction Law and Contract Administration from Trinity College, an MSc in Construction Law and Dispute Resolution from King’s College, London, and a PhD from Trinity College.  She lectures on both programmes in her areas of research. Deirdre is the coordinator of the Christmas and Summer Lectures.
