John Trainor SC – Chairperson
John was called to the Bar in 1980 and admitted to the Inner Bar in 1996. He specialises in the fields of construction law, commercial law, non-jury and chancery actions and arbitration; particularly, in the field of construction law. John is also qualified as an arbitrator, mediator and adjudicator. He has acted in a wide variety of large construction arbitrations and litigation in relation to many large engineering and building contracts, breach of contract and professional negligence cases, as well as in disputes concerning procurement, planning and insurance issues. John is the Chairperson of the Construction Bar Association of Ireland.

Jonathan S. FitzGerald BL – Vice Chairperson
Jonathan holds primary and master degrees in law. Prior to commencing practice at the Bar in 2005, Jonathan worked in the International Trade Practice of a “Big 4” advisory firm in Dublin, Sydney and New York. He qualified as a Chartered Accountant in 2001 and as an Attorney-at-Law (NY) in 2004. Jonathan practices in commercial and chancery law and has acted in an array of construction disputes in litigation, arbitration, adjudication, conciliation and mediation. Jonathan acts “of counsel” in an advisory capacity to an international renewable energy group. Jonathan is the Vice-Chairperson and a founding member of the Construction Bar Association of Ireland

Lydia Bunni BL – Secretary
Lydia is a practising barrister since 2006, specialising in construction disputes, construction insurance, arbitration, environmental and planning law. Lydia advises contractors, employers, designers, insurance companies and private entities. She lectures in Trinity College Dublin, University College Dublin and the Society of Chartered Surveyors Ireland. Lydia is Secretary and a founding member of the Construction Bar Association of Ireland.

Gerard was called to the Bar in 2004. He holds a Diploma in Arbitration and is a fellow of the CIARB. Prior to coming to the Bar, Gerard qualified and practiced as an engineer. This prior practical professional experience informs his specialisation in Construction Law and Construction Dispute Resolution.

Deirdre Ní Fhloinn BL
Deirdre is a practising barrister in her final year of a PhD at the Law School at Trinity College on the subject of legal remedies for defective housing. Deirdre previously practised as a solicitor at large Dublin based firm and at London Underground, advising on contracting arrangements for building and engineering projects. She holds a Postgraduate Diploma in Construction Law and Contract Administration from Trinity College, an MSc in Construction Law and Dispute Resolution from King’s College, London, and lectures on both programmes in her areas of research.
